CHI TOWN STAND UP

Check out Mr Ruta's footwear;
he was ripping in Nikes way before
the letters S and B had any type of
special significance to the "gearheads"
of today.

The mid-late nineties were by far my favorite period in skateboarding, it is also the time when I started skateboarding; so these articles were a treat for me being from Chicago and all. At this time downtown Chicago was where it was at, at least to me it was. I didn't spend much time skating downtown during these years, but when I did I got this crazy feeling in my stomach and was amped every second I was on my board. Rereading these two articles from the September 1997 issue of Big Brother gave me that same feeling. Chicago over the years has had it's brief moments in the skateboard spotlight; it never really was blown out like some other metropolitan cities in the U.S. which is fine with me. Twelve years later the skateboarding in Chicago is still as exciting and energetic as it was back then. I LOVE CHICAGO. Propers go out to Big Brother, Tobin Yelland, Jesse Neuhaus, Josh Kalis, and the entire Chicago skate scene for making these articles happen.
XXX Gangbang

I came across this little three page information guide a couple months ago at work. Yes the sketches are humorous and the city has been made to look harmless on the outside, but gangs in Chicago still exist. All the sports teams, crossing of the arms, and even some of the hand signs are not things that would instantly put you in danger if worn or done around town, but you never know. Be safe not stupid Chicago's a crazy town.
